I'm Lynn Bentley and I am the school counselor at Fall Creek Elementary and Forbush Elementary.
What does an elementary school counselor do?
I work with students to support social, emotional, academic and career development.
I teach classroom guidance lessons to all grade levels throughout the year. Guidance lessons are designed to follow the NC Department of Public Instruction guidance curriculum. Lessons promote cognitive and emotional development, positive interpersonal relationships, conflict management, development of academic skills and goals, teamwork, problem-solving and career exploration.
I work with students individually or in small groups. Students may be referred by teachers or parents, or they may self-refer. The types of concerns will vary with each individual student. Concerns may include academic issues, peer or family relationships, or managing behavior or emotions such as anger, grief, or stress.
I serve on the School-wide Assistance Team--where teachers bring concerns about struggling students and interventions are developed. I also coordinate section 504 services for students who qualify.
I provide consultation and collaborate with faculty and parents to assist with students' needs. I work with community helpers to provide resources for families.
I am at Fall Creek Elementary on Mondays and Tuesdays. I am at Forbush Elementary on Thursdays and Fridays.
On Wednesdays, I alternate between each school.
